Description
Michal Hvorecky is renowned for his novels and for his committed campaign work for the protection of press freedom and against anti-democratic trends. Currently, he is working on a novel from the perspective of a sturgeon in the River Danube. Following his novel Tod auf der Donau, he is now immersing himself in the deep and hidden worlds of Europe’s longest river.
Sophia Kimmig describes a fascinating parallel universe in her new book Lebendige Nacht. As soon as the sun goes down, wild animals become active and lead an incredibly busy life that we still generally know little about. A diverse living space comes to life under cover of darkness, and she recounts how it emerges, what it looks like, its rules and vitality.
What is specific about life in the darkness, how is it like, and how does it differ from life during daylight hours? What is the ecological importance of this, and what emerging insights are relevant for a review of human behaviour?
